UFT response to antisemitic material included in a DOE Master Teacher newsletter
“Our union was appalled by the content in a recent DOE newsletter. The content was offensive to the Jewish community and came on top of a series of similar egregious communications under the DOE banner. Union leaders went to the Chancellor with our outrage when we were alerted to this recent communication. To her credit, the Chancellor was already investigating and working on ways to fix the system so that this would be the last of this kind of incident,” said Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers.
While the UFT collaborates with the DOE on the Master Teacher program, the union did not write or review this newsletter before it was released. Our work with the program centers on interviewing potential candidates, providing pedagogical professional development, and supporting instructional strategies in schools.
