UFT Contract Rallies

Thousands of UFT members came together in five simultaneous borough rallies to demand a fair contract. Elected officials, community members, students, family and friends stood beside them in support.

Contract Teach-Ins

At schools across the city, members gathered with their colleagues for “teach-ins” on Jan. 30, 2023, about the UFT’s contract negotiations.

Contract Grade-Ins

UFT members demonstrated through "public grade-ins" across the city on March 30, 2023, that educators deserve respect and autonomy in their next contract. 

Leafleting for a fair contract

UFT members took to the streets for a week of action April 24-29, 2023, distributing fliers to community members about their fight for a fair contract.

Paraprofessional Rally for RESPECT

More than 1,600 UFT members crowded Broadway from City Hall Park to City Hall in a Rally for RESPECT on April 2 – Paraprofessional Appreciation Day – to call on the New York City Council to pass legislation to give paraprofessionals an annual "RESPECT check" of $10,000 to help address a dire shortage of paraprofessionals

Paraprofessional Day of Action

On April 2, which was national Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, thousands of UFT members wore blue to work in solidarity with their paraprofessional colleagues. Also that day, school chapters across the city organized ways to recognize their paraprofessionals.

2025 Paraprofessional Awards Luncheon

Nearly 1,100 paraprofessionals and other members gathered at the New York Hilton Midtown on March 22 to celebrate the outstanding work of their colleagues, attend professional learning sessions and have fun at a carnival. City Council Education Committee Chair Rita Joseph, a key supporter of the RESPECT check legislation, was the keynote speaker.

Paraprofessionals Festival & Awards Luncheon 2024

Nearly 700 paraprofessionals attended the UFT’s annual Paraprofessionals Festival & Awards Luncheon on March 23 at the New York Hilton in Midtown Manhattan. Fifteen paraprofessionals were honored for their outstanding service. Attendees participated in workshops to strengthen their practice and enjoyed a carnival featuring games and self-care. This year’s theme was “Superheroes of Education: Celebrating our Paraprofessional Powers.”

“We Make a Difference” was the theme at this year’s UFT Paraprofessionals Festival and Awards Luncheon, which celebrated paraprofessionals at Shanker Hall on March 5 for rising to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
