UFT statement on keeping school buildings closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year

On April 11, 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that school buildings would remain closed for the remainder of the 2019–20 school year.

UFT President Michael Mulgrew issued the following statement:

Keeping school buildings closed is unquestionably the right decision. Learning continues. Thanks to the efforts of our educators, remote learning is working in New York City.

Hours later, Governor Andrew Cuomo said that no final decision had yet been made on school closures in New York State.
