The Catastrophe Major Medical Plan, sponsored by NYSUT Member Benefits, offers additional coverage for expenses that a basic health plan might not. In-service members may enroll between Sept. 8 and Oct. 13, 2023.
Pre-tax transit limits increase for 2023
The city Office of Payroll Administration has informed the UFT that the monthly pre-tax limit for commuter benefits has increased from $280 to $300, the new IRS limit.

Teacher’s Choice for 2022-23 school year
Thanks to the union’s advocacy, UFT-represented educators will be reimbursed for some out-of-pocket expenses through Teacher’s Choice at the same levels as the previous school year. Teachers will once again receive about $250.
COVID-related funeral funding
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is offering financial assistance of up to $9,000 per burial to those who have paid for funeral expenses due to COVID-19.
