Resolution to vote NO on all 2025 ballot proposals
WHEREAS, ballot proposals are meant to strengthen democracy and empower New Yorkers to shape the future of our city and state; and
WHEREAS, the 2025 ballot proposals—presented as measures for advancement, modernization and efficiency—are misleading and would strip power from voters and communities while consolidating more control in the hands of the Mayor and private developers; and
WHEREAS, Proposals #2, #3, and #4 would weaken the City Council’s authority, limit community input, and allow developers to advance projects that may not reflect neighborhood needs or protect against displacement and gentrification; and
WHEREAS, these proposed housing changes would reduce accountability in land-use decisions, remove vital public review, and fail to guarantee truly affordable housing or strong tenant protections; and
WHEREAS, Proposal #1 undermines the “Forever Wild” clause of the State Constitution by permitting development on protected Adirondack land, setting a dangerous precedent that threatens New York’s environmental safeguards; and
WHEREAS, Proposal #5 would centralize borough mapping functions, reducing local transparency and oversight, while Proposal #6 would align city elections with federal elections, overshadowing local issues and diminishing civic focus on New York City’s priorities; and
WHEREAS, taken together, these measures weaken community voice, erode transparency, and shift decision-making power away from the people toward developers and centralized government control;
Therefore, be it RESOLVED, that we stand united to VOTE NO on all six ballot proposals in the 2025 General Election to protect our communities, preserve local democracy, and ensure that power remains where it belongs—with the people of New York City.
