Patrice Jordan, Age 91
Patrice Jordan was a UFT member for over 25 years, working as an English teacher at Morris Intermediate School in Staten Island from the early 1970s until her retirement in 1991. Before that, she worked as a court officer, a substitute teacher and a librarian. Upon retirement, she taught remedial English classes at the College of Staten Island and adult literacy classes for the New York Public Library. Patrice and her husband, also an intermediate school teacher on Staten Island, participated in the three UFT strikes in the late 1960s and in 1975. Their five children joined their parents on the picket lines. Patrice also frequently attended UFT-sponsored classes for retirees in Manhattan and on Staten Island. Beyond her profession, Patrice was an avid gardener and an award-winning swimmer. She also sailed and played the piano, and was a fan of opera, traveling, tennis and the Yankees. Patrice is survived by her younger sister Katharine Dunne; by four of her children, Patrice, Alexandra, Andrew, and David; and three grandchildren.
