What's New
Fostering pride in creativity
Jennifer Figueroa believes that anyone can be an artist. And the Bronx native, now in her third year of teaching art at PS 178 in Co-op City, knows that an expansive definition of "artist" helps kids take pride in all kinds of creativity.
Breaking barriers in the Bronx
Dayniah Manderson’s favorite genre to teach in her 8th-grade English classes at Mott Haven Community School is dystopian fiction because, as a wheelchair user with muscular dystrophy, she relates to the struggle to break free from oppressive systems.
District 12 Scholarship Breakfast 2023
District 12’s Scholarship Breakfast, which has grown in size every year since its 2018 inception, brought nearly 500 attendees to Villa Barone Manor in the Bronx on June 3.

Bronx Parent Conference 2025
UFT organizers of this year’s event treated 140 Bronx families to a KidZone & Community Resource Fair at the Bronx borough office. The event featured educational seminars and helpful information for parents from UFT’s Dial-A-Teacher homework helpline, the BRAVE anti-bullying initiative and partners including the Red Cross. There also was plenty of fun — face-painting and giveaways — for the kids.
