A genetics lesson

New York Teacher

"Third-graders were learning about how certain traits can be passed down to offspring through genes. We had two focus ‘parents’ and students needed to create offspring with traits they could have based on parent traits. We connected our models to the Amplify Science investigations and had fun with sharing our ‘creature features’! Students chose to create their creatures using different materials — Play-Doh, construction paper, digital models or paper and pen. Most important, they were able to explain genes and inherited traits. I’m so proud of these 3rd-grade scientists!"
