New York City Association of Foreign Language Teachers

Hexagon with blue background and speech bubbles with text in different languages

The New York City Association of Foreign Language Teachers/UFT (is an important venue for teachers of foreign languages in New York City public schools to share best practices. Our members include in-service and retired teachers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish and less commonly taught languages. We hope you will join us!

The association, which is a local affiliate of the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers, meets regularly throughout the school year to plan professional development conferences  in the fall and spring. Attendance at the full-day fall conference regularly exceeds 300 people; more than 100 educators typically attend the half-day spring conference. Workshops at the conferences are presented by in-service educators. Past topics include classroom management, language through the arts, total physical-response storytelling, the use of technology in the classroom and preparing students for the language AP exams.

Membership in the association is open to all UFT members. Our conferences and our meetings are held at UFT headquarters in lower Manhattan. For more information, contact the UFT Professional Committees at 212-598-7772.
