The local affiliate of the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers, the New York City Association of Foreign Language Teachers/UFT (NYCAFLT/UFT) is an important venue for teachers of foreign languages in New York City public schools to share best practices. Our members include in-service and retired teachers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish and less commonly taught languages. We hope you will join us!
The Association meets six times annually to plan our two trademark professional development conferences – in the fall and spring, respectively – which we have held since 1997. Attendance at the full-day fall conference regularly breaks 300; more than 100 educators typically attend the half-day spring conference. Workshops at the conferences are presented by in-service educators; past topics include classroom management, language through the arts, total physical response storytelling, the use of technology in the classroom, preparing students for the language AP exams, and a host of others.
Membership in the Association is open to all UFT members and both our conferences and our meetings are held at UFT headquarters in lower Manhattan. For more information or to join our e-mail list, contact the UFT Professional Committees’ office at 212-598-7772.
