Let's observe Bullying Prevention Month!

As you may know, October is Bullying Prevention Month, an excellent opportunity to unify behind the values of kindness, acceptance and inclusion. Here are a few things you can do to mark the occasion:

  • Wear orange on Wednesday, Oct. 20, for Unity Day, and share your pictures on social media with the hashtag #UnityDay2021. Read more about Unity Day »
  • Check out the UFT's BRAVE Campaign webpage for anti-bullying information, resources and free virtual workshops. Be BRAVE against bullying »
  • Report instances of bullying in New York City public schools to the Department of Education using the DOE's online form »

Citywide general election: Tuesday, Nov. 2

There will be a citywide general election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Here are some other important dates leading up to the election:

  • Monday, Oct. 18, is the last day to apply online or by mail for an absentee ballot.
  • Saturday, Oct. 23, is when early voting begins.
  • Sunday, Oct. 31, is the last day of early voting.
  • Monday, Nov. 1, is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in-person at your borough's Board of Elections Office.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

To find more information on voting, visit vote.nyc. To find your poll site, visit findmypollsite.vote.nyc. (Remember: Your early voting site will be different from your Election Day site!)

Upcoming events

  • Saturday, Oct. 23: The 13th annual Brooklyn parent-teacher association 5K Fun Run will begin in Prospect Park at 9 a.m. To learn more and register, visit the website.
  • Monday, Oct. 25: The Brooklyn Public Library will host a civic event for parents titled Break Glass in Case of Emergency: Why Democracy Education is Not a Drill. The talk will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will be held online. Learn more and register.
  • Multiple dates until Nov. 8: Come to an information session about a new savings program that will automatically award $100 in college savings for every kindergartner this fall. Information sessions will be in English, Spanish, Arabic and Mandarin. Find an event and learn more about the college savings benefit by visiting the website.
  • Starting in November: The city Department for the Aging will host an online Grandparent Empowerment Series of workshops that will meet online every week. The schedule and other details will be available soon, but you can learn more, including how to reserve your spot, by seeing the flier.

  • Events at Greenwood Cemetery: Prospect Park's beautiful Greenwood Cemetery hosts trolley rides, art installations and other cultural events. See the online calendar »
  • Visit Brooklyn's largest farmers market: The Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket convenes every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and accepts cash, credit and debit cards, SNAP/EBT and WIC. Visit the website »
