A new program for Hepatitis C treatment

News Stories

The UFT Welfare Fund has announce a new and innovative program with EmblemHealth that the UFT Welfare Fund has been able to attain to help UFT-represented employees suffering from the Hepatitis C virus. The program gives access to best-in-class care, while eliminating the hundreds of dollars in drug co-pays normally associated with Hep C treatment.

This benefit is available to all UFT-represented in-service employees and their dependents who receive prescription drug coverage through the UFT Welfare Fund.

The UFT Welfare Fund and EmblemHealth have been working closely over the last few months with New York University (NYU) Langone Hospitals to establish this program.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, members who choose to be treated for Hepatitis C at NYU Langone Hospitals' Hepatitis C Clinic will have access to world-class treatment and a $0 drug copay for the associated treatment drugs, through the UFT Welfare Fund’s partnership with EmblemHealth.

NYU Langone Hospitals' Hepatitis C Clinic, located at 317 East 34th St. in Manhattan, has medical staff who specialize in caring for patients with this diagnosis. Their world-renowned care team develops treatment plans tailored to each individual patient's needs. In addition to offering free at-home delivery, the NYU specialty pharmacy also offers personal concierges that are available to address questions or concerns that you may have related to your prescribed Hepatitis C medications. The NYU specialty pharmacy team is available to answer your calls 24/7.

You can call now to schedule an appointment after Jan. 1, 2020, when this benefit goes into effect. Call NYU Langone Hospitals' Hepatitis C Clinic at 212-263-3643.

UFT-represented employees may continue to receive treatment for Hepatitis C elsewhere. At locations other than NYU Langone Hospitals' Hepatitis C Clinic, prescription drugs will continue to be covered by the UFT Welfare Fund, but normal copays will apply.

If you have any questions, please contact the UFT Welfare Fund at 212-539-0500.
