Updated coronavirus cleaning protocol for custodial engineers

To All Custodian Engineers:

Please find below directions for building cleaning and operations beginning Monday, March 23, 2020:

  • Custodian engineers in buildings that are a designated Regional Enrichment Center (REC) are required to perform the enhanced disinfecting protocols every day for as long as you are open as a REC. Requests for additional labor hours will be submitted to your DDF for approval, and coded to 202S CV.
  • Custodian engineers in RECs are to redirect one or more day shift staff to perform routine disinfection (while the building is occupied) in common spaces and on frequently contacted touchpoints throughout the day. These custodial workers should be highly visible to building staff and available for rapid response to cleaning/disinfecting concerns. Additionally, all bathrooms must be inspected regularly and fully stocked with soap and paper towels at all times. Custodian engineers in RECs should also be aware:
    • Programs will be led by Site Supervisors, who will be different than your normal building Principal. Please connect with your Site Supervisors and exchange contact information.
    • Furniture may need to be moved to accommodate different age groups.
    • Students will be eating their meals in classrooms.
    • There will be two (2) isolation rooms in each building. Special attention will be paid to disinfecting these rooms.
  • Custodian engineers in buildings that are designated as feeding locations are not required to perform enhanced disinfecting protocols unless directed in response to a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the building. Custodian engineers in feeding sites should support the Office of Food and Nutritional Services (OFNS), and continue with normal building cleaning and maintenance as required.
  • Custodian engineers in buildings that are not feeding sites and are also closed for regular instruction are not required to perform enhanced disinfecting protocols unless directed in response to a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the building. Custodian engineers will continue with normal building cleaning and maintenance as required.
  • As a reminder, ALL buildings are still scheduled to be open for contractor permits, skilled trades, school safety, school food distribution, SCA BCAS surveys, administrative deliveries, etc. Please ensure that you allow access for all authorized personnel. If you have any question about whether a person is authorized, please contact your DDF, Principal, or Site Supervisor.

Reminder – when disinfecting after a confirmed case of COVID-19 in your building, PPE is required. If you require PPE, please contact your DDF.
