A Bronx Community is safer after 76 people got free COVID-19 vaccines at the Vaccination Day and Family Festival sponsored by the UFT's United Community Schools initiative and health care provider MetroPlus on June 4 at the Bronx Writing Academy.

The UFT presented $5,000 Albert Shanker College Scholarships to 134 public high school students and eight graduate students on June 2 at the 52nd annual Albert Shanker Scholarship celebration, held virtually on Zoom.

This spring, hundreds of parents across the city gathered for the 12th annual UFT parent conferences, with each borough hosting its own virtual event on Zoom.

UFT members at the East Elmhurst Community School in Queens organized a “Pump the Pride” community car parade to show off their school spirit and support families on March 12.

The new city schools chancellor, Meisha Ross Porter, is a 20-year veteran of city public schools, starting out as a teacher and principal, then community superintendent and executive superintendent, all in the Bronx.
