Resolution to establish a technology professional committee
WHEREAS, classrooms in New York City public schools have experienced a significant increase in technological integration, transforming the educational landscape; and
WHEREAS, UFT members face the ongoing challenge of staying updated with rapidly evolving educational technologies and their applications in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, new technology-focused job titles, such as School-based Technology Single Point of Contact (SPOC), are emerging and evolving, requiring specialized knowledge and skills; and
WHEREAS, the effective use of technology in education is crucial for preparing students for future academic and career success; and
WHEREAS, the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) recognizes the need to support its members in developing and maintaining technological proficiency; therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the UFT establishes a Technology Committee dedicated to supporting members in their ongoing technological professional development; and be it further
RESOLVED, that this Technology Committee will provide regular workshops, webinars, and resources to help UFT members stay current with the latest educational technologies and best practices for their integration in the classroom; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the UFT advocates for the recognition and support of evolving technology-focused roles, such as SPOC positions, ensuring that members in these roles receive appropriate training, compensation, and career advancement opportunities; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the UFT collaborates with New York City Public Schools to ensure that technology professional development opportunities are accessible to all members and aligned with the current and future needs of the system.
