The 10th annual Hero Day at PS 33 in Queens Village was filled with both enchantment and sorrow.

In a June 26 ceremony performed by Mayor Bill de Blasio on the steps of City Hall, social studies teacher Katrina Council exchanged vows with her fiancée Sara Joseph in a wedding celebrating that day’s historic Supreme Court ruling declaring marriage equality in all 50 states.

There was something for everyone at the daylong 20th annual RTC Day at the University, held at UFT headquarters on June 12. There was a wide variety of workshops to choose from at the popular event, from Women of New York to New York on Film to Sex Beyond 60. below left: Retiree Sylbia Elbaz leads the Culinary Medicine workshop.

“You make us all so proud,” UFT President Michael Mulgrew told the 12 New York City public school teachers named Big Apple Award winners for their teaching excellence at a June 19 celebration on the lawn of Gracie Mansion.

Crowds lining Fifth Avenue for the 2014 NYC Pride March on June 29 cheered the 100 UFT participants who carried the union banner, wore specially designed T-shirts and whistled for attention.
