Resolution for targeted support for new Career and Technical Education (CTE) educators

WHEREAS, Career and Technical Education (CTE) is critical in equipping students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary for success in various industries and the modern workforce; and
WHEREAS, New CTE educators face unique challenges in delivering specialized curriculum and managing the diverse needs of students, often requiring both pedagogical and content-specific expertise; and
WHEREAS, The retention and professional development of new CTE educators are crucial to maintaining a robust and effective CTE program across educational institutions; and
WHEREAS, Content specialists in specific areas of study can provide invaluable support, mentorship, and resources to new CTE educators, enhancing their teaching effectiveness and contributing positively to student outcomes; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That these support programs include mentorship opportunities, collaborative planning sessions, and ongoing professional development tailored to the unique needs of CTE educators; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the UFT, NYSUT, and AFT will work collaboratively for the establishment of targeted support programs for new CTE educators that will provide access to content specialists in their specific areas of study; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the UFT will work collaboratively with educational institutions and governing bodies, advocating for the allocation of necessary funding to hire and retain content specialists who can offer guidance and support to new CTE educators, ensuring their successful integration and retention within the education system; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the UFT, NYSUT, and AFT will work collaboratively with educational policymakers, school administrations, and industry partners to develop and implement these support programs, thereby strengthening the overall quality and effectiveness of Career and Technical Education nationwide.
