The Power of Our Words: Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn
Register for a free United Community Schools professional learning session about the power of words. Research shows that teachers' words have a lasting effect on their students. Our language can build students up or tear them down. By paying attention to our words and tone of voice, we can increase student engagement, supercharge student achievements, build community and manage our classrooms more effectively. A few intentional shifts in language can foster self-regulation and nurture children's inner lives. Come learn how you can use language to encourage and support your students and connect with their parents.

Methods of Teaching Language and Literacy for English Language Learners
The course will examine language acquisition and how it impacts the academic achievement of students learning English as a new language. Participants will explore research-based practices that develop the four domains of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will have the opportunity to experience interactive strategies and practices of engaging with multimedia text that can be used to support literacy across the content areas for English language learners (ELLs).
