How do I sign up for a account?

To access valuable information on our website, you must have an account.

  • Click Log In at the top right of the homepage and click Create a New Account.
  • Add your email and a password. (Passwords must contain eight characters, one capital letter and one numeral. Special characters are not allowed at this time)
  • You cannot use a DOE email account; please use a personal email account.
  • You must validate your email. You will receive an email to make sure you’re not a bot.
  • If you don't receive an email, please check your Spam and Junk mailboxes. In Gmail, you’ll want to scroll down the righthand column, past More, to find the Spam box.
  • You must verify your identity. In order to access special content on the website (searchable contracts, the APPR complaint, etc.) or access the UFT's mobile app, you must verify your identity as a member. You will need your UFT member ID and/or your file number. 
How do I reset my password?

Forgot your password?

  • Click the login link at the top of the page and click on Forgot Password. An email will be sent to you with a link.
  • Login into your personal email account (i.e., Gmail, Yahoo, etc.)
  • Click the link to reset your password
  • If you don’t receive an email right away, you may want to check your Spam folder to reset your password. The link may need to be resent as it only lasts for 30 minutes.

I'm still having trouble signing up or logging in to

Make sure you can receive email messages. Receiving and opening an email message from is an important part of the sign-up and password-reset processes.

If you're not receiving emails from us, it's possible that your email host is blocking email messages or marking them as spam. Check your junk and spam mailboxes or make sure you whitelist in your email settings. Once you have unblocked mail, try finalizing the sign-up process or resetting your password again.

I have not received an ATR (Absent Teacher Reserve) assignment yet. What school/location should I report to?

If a teacher has been an ATR in the past and they did not receive an assignment, they should return to the school to which they were assigned in June. If they are new to the ATR pool, but did not receive an assignment, they should return to their school—they may not actually have been excessed.

How much time do teachers have to prepare their classrooms in September before the students return?

Teachers must be given sufficient time to prepare their classrooms, which is usually at least half a day.

How long are the first two workdays of the new school year?

For teachers and paraprofessionals, the first two workdays before students return are both 6 hours and 50 minutes long. For other titles, Tuesday follows regular work hours and Wednesday is six hours and 50 minutes.

What can I use my Teacher's Choice money to buy?

Teacher’s Choice allocations are not for basic supplies; your school should provide those. If that’s not the case, talk to your chapter leader. They are for special projects or enrichment materials for your classes. Sometimes a group of UFT members pool their money to buy equipment or other more expensive purchases for a grade or department--but this is purely voluntary; the choice is yours.

How does the Teacher's Choice program work?

Members receive their Teacher's Choice funds in their last November or first December paychecks, but you should start purchasing and saving receipts sooner than this date. For this school year, purchases made between Aug. 1, 2019 and mid January, 2020 are eligible. Receipts for these purchases must accompany a Statement of Purpose/Accountability form. Items purchased under Teacher's Choice must be appropriate for educational use in the classroom or for other professional assignments.

Those who do not wish to participate in the program must submit a Request for Non-Participation (Opt Out Form). If you receive the Teacher's Choice funds in your paycheck and do not file an accountability form with required receipts by the deadline, you will be obligated to refund the money to the DOE.

What is Teacher's Choice?

Teacher’s Choice gives UFT members buying power. It is money provided in the budget by the New York City Council that reimburses eligible UFT members up to an allotted amount for the cost of supplementary supplies and materials that they buy to help them do their jobs.

Teachers, school counselors, social workers, school psychologists, lab specialists, occupational and physical therapists, school nurses and school secretaries should check with their chapter leaders to find out how much money is allocated for their title.

When should I expect to meet with my evaluator/the person conducting observations of my teaching performance?

Your evaluator must conduct an Initial Planning Conference with you no later than the last Friday in October. This in-person conversation between you and your evaluator should take place at a mutually agreed upon time. This conference is an opportunity for you to discuss previous evaluations, current classes, and plans for the upcoming school year. 

Your evaluator must also conduct a summative conference with you between the last Friday in April and the last Friday in June. This in-person conversation gives you a chance to talk about the year's observations and to answer any questions your evaluator has.
