Resolution in support of the UFT endorsing Erik Bottcher in his primary election for City Council

UFT Resolutions

Whereas, Erik Bottcher's close relationship with the UFT dates back to 2009, when, as the LGBT Liaison in the City Council's community outreach unit, he partnered with the UFT to help develop initiatives to combat bullying and bias-based harassment; and

Whereas, since 2015, as Speaker Corey Johnson’s Chief of Staff, Erik has been a champion of schools in Council District 3, fighting for more funding for public schools; calling for expanded after-school programs; and demanding greater capital investments in education; and

Whereas, Erik has long fought for important education priorities in the City budget, including Teacher's Choice; United Community Schools; and the Dial-A-Teacher homework helpline; and

Whereas, as a member of the City Council, Erik will continue to be a champion of teachers and public education, fighting against attempts to balance the budget at the expense of students and educators; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the UFT endorse Erik Bottcher in his primary election for New York City Council District 3 as we believe he will be a strong ally for working people, our schools and our community.
